Meta confirmed on Monday that Instagram will require its U.S. employees to work five days a week in the office. According to an employee memo from Instagram head Adam Mosseri, this new return-to-work policy will take effect on February 2nd and aims to create a more creative and collaborative work environment. Mosseri plans to reduce the number of meetings in the photo-sharing department and hopes employees will showcase more product prototypes rather than presentations, referring to formal written memos and related documents. A spokesperson stated that this new return-to-work policy applies only to the Instagram platform and does not apply to the company's other applications, such as Facebook and WhatsApp. Recently, tech companies and other businesses have begun requiring employees to work five days a week in the office. Management generally describes this as a way to eliminate organizational hierarchies and improve collaboration efficiency in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
